Païolive, a forest full of secrets

Located at the foot of the Cevennes, you will be amazed by the beauty of the oak trees and the diversity of the flora that make up the famous Païolive wood. Numerous hiking trails take you into the depths of the forest to discover the limestone sculptures that line this natural labyrinth. Don’t miss the bear and lion rock!

Its nickname of “bois des fados” (wood of the fairies), perfectly defines the enigmatic and magical atmosphere of this forest. We recommend the cornice path which offers a magnificent view of the Chassezac gorges.

Hiking in the Bois de Paiolive

The walk takes you to the heart of this unique plant and mineral labyrinth, where limestone rocks tormented by the elements and venerable trees give it the appearance of a supernatural world. Don’t hesitate to take part in the “Geology, ancient forest, fauna, flora in the heart of the Bois de Païolive” hike, which will give you a better understanding of the geological evolution of this area and its environment in a 1.5 hour walk punctuated by explanations. This is a walk with no difference in altitude, accessible to children (free for children up to 10 years old) and covering 7 km.
